Ethics vs. the mighty dollar

For reasons I am not prepared to go in to now :P it looks like eating in restaurants will be few and far between for my family. It already is, but now it will be fewer and far-er. Mmmm... yeah. Anyway, this includes while we are in Germany.

Now the Germans heart the environment. About the only place you will find a disposable anything is a fast food joint - and if I remember correctly, even there they are stingy with the disposables. Yeah, I probably don't remember that correctly so you should probably just ignore that last part. I am sure that while we are in Germany we could get some super cool lunch packing gear for our adventures, but we need something before then.

For some reason, this website will not allow me to link directly to a product page, so you will have to click here and click on ACME bags on the left, and then scroll down to the ACME Bags™ Sandwich Bag and ACME Bags™ Snack Bag. Love them. The only problem is the price. Now I am all for paying for a good quality product that will 1) save me money in the long run and 2) support and promote reusables, but for what I would need for my family? $100. Not.even.kidding. $99.45, before any tax and shipping. Oy and Vey.

So, then I found these. Love these too, but I would still need the snack bags from the other site.

Some answers-
1) Because plastic containers take up so much room that to pack a lunch for all five of us we would need to take a pretty large cooler and not the still stinking big lunch box cooler thing we usually use.

2) Because I am cheap, that's why.

3) Yes, eventually.

Now, some questions.
1) Would it be wrong to use these products as inspiration and sew my own?

2) How hard do you think it would be for someone with less than stellar (Ok, less than beginner) sewing skills to sew either of them?

Any and all (nice) comments are appreciated!

No, it's not wrong to see something for sale and use it as an inspiration for your own projects.

I looked at the sandwich and snack bags..... and all I can say is "Yikes!" They are very nice, but quite expensive.

This may help you.

I'm not great at sewing and these instructions look do-able to me.

I wish we lived closer, I would love to help you sew. I just finished a Wizard of Oz themed lunch box for my neice Jessica. Not sure she will need it since she goes into the Army in February, but that is what she wanted.

Kiara- Thanks for the link! I may have to try that after I work on my sewing skills. I found this and It looks like I could do it. Hopefully. http://dabbled.org/2009/07/tutorial-how-to-make-environmentally-friendly-reusable-sandwichsnack-bags.html
